Salām azizānam! 🌞 (Hello my dears!)
Ever found yourself sitting next to your partner, thinking: Wow, I’m so lucky they’re here or Let me text them to remind them how amazing it is to have them by my side? Well, today’s Persian phrase is perfect for moments like these!
🗣 Let's learn how to say, "Thank you for being (here)" in Persian: "Mersi ke hasti!"
Context: This expression works well for showing appreciation to someone for their presence. In Persian, the verb "hasti" means "you are" (second person singular), which can imply both someone's existence and presence, so it's a natural and heartfelt expression.
🦉 Dig Deeper: Curious about the structure?
In Persian, we use a Subject-Object-Verb (SOV) structure. Let’s break it down:
- Mersi: The most common and easiest way to say "thank you" in Persian, borrowed from the French "merci."
- Ke: Means "that."
- Hasti: Means "you are," used for the second-person singular (you). It comes from the verb "to be."
So, "mersi ke hasti" literally means "Thank you that you are" or more naturally, "Thank you for being."
Conjugation of "to be" (بودَن) in Persian:
Transcription (spoken) | Persian (written) | Meaning | Squeezed Version |
---|---|---|---|
hastam | هستم | I am | -am |
hasti | هستی | You are | -i |
hast | هست | He/She/It is | -e (mostly) |
hastim | هستیم | We are | -im |
hastin | هستید | You all are | -in |

✨ Bonus Tip: Want to thank a group? Just add -in to make it plural: Mersi ke hastin! ("Thank you all for being").
Alternative Expressions:
- Mersi ke hasti azizam (مرسی که هستی عزیزم): Thank you for being, my dear.
- Eshgham, mamnoon ke hasti (عشقم، ممنون که هستی): Thank you for being, my love.
